| Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy
|
The chapter’s Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy program prepares
young women, ages 11 – 14, for the 21st century by strengthening
their skills in math, science, and technology, and exposing them to non-traditional
careers; and providing service learning as a method to which students
learn through active participation in organized service experiences that
meet community needs. Activities are conducted with the participants in
a hands-on learning environment, cultivating sisterhood in their relationships.

|
Dr. Jeanne Noble Delta GEMS was created to “catch
the dreams” of African American at-risk adolescent girls aged 14
– 18 (a natural expansion and continuation of Delta Academy). The
goal of Delta GEMS is to provide an environment that promotes meaningful
job training skills, educational development, cultural enrichment, and
community service by: instilling the need to excel academically; assisting
in proper goal setting and planning for their futures – high school
and beyond; providing tools that enable participants to sharpen and enhance
their skills to achieve high levels of academic success; and creating
compassionate, caring, and community-minded young women by actively involving
them in service learning and community service opportunities. Delta GEMS
falls under the 5-Point Thrust of Educational Development.

| EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence)
|
The EMBODI program is designed to refocus the efforts of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc., with the support and action of other major organizations,
on the plight of African-American males. Both informal and empirical data
suggests that the vast majority of African-American males continues to
be in crisis and is not reaching its fullest potential educationally,
socially and emotionally. EMBODI is designed to address these issues through
dialogue, and recommendations for change and action. EMBODI will include
a program format and information template. The delivery options may include
a town hall meeting, workshops, and/or teen leadership summits. |

International Awareness and Involvement |
The International Awareness and Involvement committee is charged with taking proactive steps in educating both the chapter and the community at-large on current and ongoing issues within the international arena. The committee partners with other FWAC committees and national organizations (i.e. PlanUsa.org or RiceBowl.org). The program revolves around raising awareness around a specific international cause (world hunger, child poverty, and clean water).
| Physical and Mental Health
|
Physical and Mental Health features educating the Chapter and community with information on health related issues and concerns. This includes a healthy lifestyle change to combat obesity and heart disease. Physical and Mental Health falls under the 5-Point Thrust of Physical and Mental Health and Educational Development.
| Scholarship |
The Chapter administers a scholarship program that provides financial
assistance to graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated a significant
level of academic success, social awareness, and community involvement,
as they pursue a goal of higher education at a 2 or 4-year institution. |
|
| Seniors
Friendly Visitors Program |

Special activities, such as the Christmas bazaar and Spring Carnival, are conducted during the year. The Seniors Friendly Visitors Program falls under the 5-Point Thrust of Physical and Mental Health.
| Social Action Committee |
The objective of the Chapter’s social action activities is to keep the Chapter and community apprised of current political, educational, and social issues within the community. Activities include seminars on Domestic Violence, voter registration, working with Prince George’s and Charles County elected officials to deter youth crime, working directly with students in selected schools, mentoring, tutoring, and cleaning roads (Adopt-A-Road).
